One thing to let go off before you start enjoying your job
My friend’s daughter does track. During the last competition, she ran her favorite distance, 600 meters, and the result was... disappointing. She did everything she was supposed to do. She prepared physically and mentally, visualized the race and tried to recreate this in reality. And the coach said that it was... wrong! At that stage of her running career she needed a loser approach, trust her intuition more.
Do you see parallels to your professional career yet?
If you try to implement what you believe should happen, you will struggle to bend yourself or the reality to fit the expectations. It is painful to bend yourself. And trying to bend the reality will keep you frustrated. It rarely cooperates.
Instead, let go of expectations and trust that 1) you are alright and 2) you will be able to respond to the changing conditions and situations exactly the way they come your way.
Acceptance is Total Control!
When I heard this phrase from my mentor, it took me some time to get my head around it and then... It. Rocked. My. World.
External circumstances affect us only if we do not accept and fight them. Once you accept them, they lose power over you and you are free to respond however you want (or not to respond, as the case may be).
Think of one situation or relationship at work that gets under your skin. Now ask yourself what expectations do I have in relation to this situation/relationship. Then let go of them and tell yourself that next time you will accept it exactly the way it is, like rain. Be “Forrest Gumpy” here.
If you are able to do this, you will enjoy yourself much more. I guarantee you.
Hey, if you choose to be at this job (at least for now), you may as well make it work for you. It is possible!
And if you feel you need some inspiration or bouncing off of ideas on how exactly do this, reach out to me. I will be happy to strategize with you.
